Consultation with Children and Young People with SEND
Teachers/SENDCo and Support Staff will work with children and young people to identify the support needed to meet agreed outcomes. The provision is planned and interventions are allocated to individual needs. The children take an active role with setting their outcomes and discussing them with the class teacher/SENDCo. The children have regular meetings with staff to discuss their progress and support.
Consultation with parents and carers of children and young people with SEND
We are committed to working with parents and carers to identify their child’s needs and support. Parents and carers will be involved throughout the process.
There is a range of ways this can be done, for example:
- Termly parents/ carers evenings;
- Parent questionnaires and surveys;
- Pupil Voice questionnaires;
- Ongoing discussions with a class teacher and/or SENDCo;
- An ‘open-door’ policy, where parents and carers are welcome to come into school to discuss any concerns they may have;
- Through a review of a child’s SEN Support Plan or the Annual Review of their EHC Plan.
Your View Counts
At The Grove Primary School, your views count to us and we aim to work collaboratively in order to provide the best provision for your child/ren. Thank you to all the parents/ carers who responded to our questionnaire. If you would like the opportunity to add any further comments, please do not hesitate to contact the school to speak to Carly or email the SEND account: send@thegroveprimaryschool.co.uk
SEND Parents Questionnaire
We analysed the results from our survey to discover what we are doing well and what we could do to make things even better.
Things we are doing well…
- Parents/carers are happy with how often they hear about their child’s progress
- Most parents/carers have a good understanding of their child’s SEND and how to help them
- Most parents/carers were happy with quality of teaching and support their child received.
- Most parents/carers were happy that interventions, specific to their child’s needs, were being ran regularly.
We also wanted to find out what we could do even better…
- Some parents/ carers asked for ‘homework packs’ to be sent home to help work on the specific targets on children’s SEND plans.
- Some parents/ carers would like more information about the difficulties that their child faces to better understand them and how to help.
- Use of email to send SEND information to parents/carers.
As part of our ongoing development of our SEND Information report we will be taking your views and ensuring we work towards making these improvements over the next academic year.
